Crysis Demo in Stasis ’til October 26th

Tag: CrysisNightCrawler @ 10:51 am

The Good News: Electronic Arts and Crytek are still releasing a demo of their forthcoming PC shooter Crysis. The Bad News: The demo has been delayed to October 26, three weeks before the game goes on sale. “We are taking some extra time to make sure you that you have an amazing experience but also we did not want to risk the [November 16] release date of Crysis at this stage,” Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli explained in a statement.

Yerli partially assuaged impatient gamers’ ire by announcing the Crysis demo, which will be available via GameSpot Downloads, will ship with the CryEngine 2’s Sandbox 2 game editor. This will give “the community the opportunity to get familiar with the vast amount of tools they will have at their disposal” when the highly anticipated game arrives on store shelves, said Yerli. AMD Adds Triple-Core Processors to Roadmap

Tag: AMDNightCrawler @ 1:25 pm

AMD today updated its roadmap with another multi-core processor, to slot between its dual and quad-core processors – Phenom triple-core processors. The new Phenom triple-core processors feature three processing cores on a single die and based on AMD’s Barcelona architecture, which launched last week in Opteron form.

The new triple-core processors will feature similar specifications as its upcoming Phenom X2 and X4 brethren. The Socket AM2+ processors feature 512KB of L2 cache for each core and a shared pool of L3 cache. Essentially, the Phenom triple-core processors are quad-core variants with one core disabled. This allows AMD to simply disable one core on quad-core dies for maximum use of a single wafer.

Crysis Mulitplayer Beta Test Details

Tag: CrysisNightCrawler @ 1:35 pm

The news leaked out last week but today Electronic Arts released details on what will be contained in the multiplayer beta test for Crysis, the upcoming FPS developed by Crytek. Multiplayer beta keys will be given out in batches in the next few weeks at the Fileplanet web site. Here is a snip:

“Players who enlist will be among the first to test “Power Struggle”, an exciting new open-ended, team-based multiplayer game mode. As always, your objective is to reduce your enemy’s base of operations to rubble – it’s how you get to that point of ultimate satisfaction that sets Power Struggle apart from the rest.

Teams will need to rely on their ability to strategize as much as their cumulative marksmanship skills. Those who work together best to manage resources, seize specialized factories and exploit mysterious alien technology will be able to build the hyper-advanced weapons and vehicles needed to lay waste to the opposition.”
