COD4 swoops in and takes the crown for last week’s most played Live game
Halo has dominated Xbox Live since Halo 2 hit Xbox, even topping the 360’s online gaming lists (until Gears of War), but the third game’s domination of Microsoft’s online servers has been put on hold by Activision.
Last week, (beginning Jan 14), Call of Duty 4 managed to knock Halo 3 off the top spot on the list of most played Xbox Live games.
Master Chief was forced to settle for second place, with Guitar Hero III (another Activision title) coming in third, and Gears of War in an ever solid fourth.

Currently, Cod4 Mod tools are only supported for the English version of the game!
Activision has released the English version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Mod Tools, a package which allows you to create modifications for this popular first person sequel developed by Infinity Ward. Note that CoD4 Mod Tools requires your video drivers and DirectX to be up to date. For certain applications to work correctly a DX9 video card is required, even though the game itself will run on a DX8 video card. The CoD4 Mod Tools do not work in Windows Vista, although some users have reported some success running them in Windows XP Compatibility Mode. You can download the SDK from several sites including Fileshack, FilePlanet, and GamersHell. Infinity Ward has also launched their own Wiki-style web site to help (unofficially) with the use of the game’s map editor. {Thanks! GamersHell!}
Rumour has it that the next game in the awesome Call of Duty series will be taking a step backwards, returning to the over-used World War II setting after its glorious foray into contemporary conflict with the 10/10-rated Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It seems an illogical step, but when you consider that CoD3’s developer Treyarch is back in the saddle as opposed to Infinity Ward, and that a Pacific location has been hinted at, it all starts to sound more and more likely.
We really, really don’t want to see that happen – not only because the WWII scenario is now as interesting as grandad’s old war stories (and just as frequently told), but because we’ve yet to see some of the best real-world weapons in the series. No, not ‘vintage’ weapons – but those from the cutting edge of arms development. We’ve had a dig around the net to bring you the future of Call of Duty as we see it. After all, which would you rather use in your shooting games? A crappy old Tommy gun, or a state-of-the-art military prototype? Thought so. Check these babies out…
