During Electronic Arts’ financial conference call today, company execs stated that they plan to release all of the new games in Valve’s Orange Box collection (Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal) as separate retail games for the PC. The three games will ship to stores for the PC sometime before the end of March; no prices for the games were announced. Of course, Steam owners can already pay and download those three games as separate products.

“We would like to mention here that “Half-Life 3? is speculation, as we only have confirmation that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 will not be the last Half-Life game. It has been confirmed previously that Episode 3 will end the current Half-Life story arc, but not the franchise, nor the episodic medium.

There is perfect chance that there will be a series of episodic Half-Life games after Episode 3 (but unconnected to the current story arc). Then again, we cannot deny the possibility of a full-fledged title like Half-Life 3. Hell, for all we know, it might even be a prequel!”

Wow, a prequel! That would make a lot of sense! OKAY, MAYBE NOT!

Valve’s reputation as a top tier developer began when Half-Life released in 1998 and was cemented in 2004 when they released the spectacular sequel. Now, they’re bringing that magic back with The Orange Box. As we’ve said in countless previews, this is one of the best deals we’ve ever seen in gaming, especially for those people that have yet to play Half-Life 2 at all. With Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2 Episode One, and Half-Life 2 Episode Two, players can take the entire Half-Life 2 journey up to now in order.
